Trivia Answer picture You're Right!
A 1960's Icon of advertising Americana. The bandito character was created by animation legend Tex Avery for a commercial ad campaign in the late 1960's and ran into the early 1970's. He became a bit of an outcast as the corporate sponsor began to feel he represented a negative streoreotype. Not only was he dropped from use, his whole history was basically eliminated from the company records. Ayiee, yie-yie-yieeee, I am dee Frito Bandito. I love Frito's Corn Chips, I love dem I do. I love Frito's Corn Chips, I take dem from you. By 1970, this jolly, little gringo had kicked up quite a fuss in the Latino community, similar to the protests about sterotypes generated by Taco Bell's talking-dog campaign. The Frito Bandito spoke broken English and made his living robbing people for their corn chips. The Wanted Poster premium describes him as cunning, clever and sneaky. Backhanded compliments? Maybe, but the Frito Bandito campaign was discontinued and replaced by the Muncha Bunch.
