Trivia Question His own life was as dramatic as any movie. He was stillborn, but shocked back to life when his father plunged him into an icy lake. Raised partly in foster homes after his vaudeville parents divorced, he first worked as a plumbing contractor before trying his hand at acting. His career was undistinguished until 1940, when he impressed critics in "Of Mice and Men (1939)."

Big and hulking, with impassive, craggy features, he appeared in about 150 films, mostly horror pictures and Westerns, typically as a villain or some other heavy. Despite his success, he was wracked with self-doubt and battled alcoholism late in his life. Who was this funky actor that died in 1973?

| Lionell Atwill

| Lon Chaney, Jr.

|
Colin Clive

| Boris Karloff
